A violent episode unfolded in Kalungu District on Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The initial incident involved Rehema Nabukeera, a local tenant, who was allegedly attacked and stabbed.
According to police spokesperson SP Kasirye Twaaha, the dispute began when a man identified only as Dan approached Nabukeera’s residence seeking a key to the communal latrine. When Nabukeera refused, Dan reportedly retrieved a knife from his nearby room and returned to stab her in the back of the neck.
Nabukeera’s cries for help alerted neighbors, and she was transported to Villa Maria Hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead. The news of her death quickly spread, igniting anger among the local community.
Enraged residents reportedly located Dan at his house, where he had sought refuge. Eyewitness accounts suggest that as Dan attempted to flee, he was intercepted by the mob approximately 25 meters from his home and brutally beaten to death.
Police have since recovered both bodies and transported them to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations. SP Kasirye Twaaha has strongly condemned the mob justice, urging the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead surrender suspects to the authorities. Investigations into the full circumstances of both fatalities are ongoing.
