Rugumayo Continues Dominance with MTN Pro Tee Victory

Ronald Rugumayo has further cemented his status as a leading golfer in Uganda, clinching his fifth tournament victory in a row at the MTN Pro Tee Series event held at Entebbe Club. This latest triumph follows his historic win at the Uganda Professionals Golf Open just two weeks prior, marking him as the first Ugandan to claim that title in 14 years.

Despite a somewhat subdued start in the opening rounds at Entebbe, carding scores of 70 and 71, Rugumayo demonstrated his class with a remarkable comeback. He shot an exceptional eight-under 63 in the third round, followed by a seven-under 64 in the final round. These stellar performances propelled him to a winning aggregate score of 16-under 268, securing a commanding seven-shot victory.

“It’s always a great feeling to win,” Rugumayo stated after the tournament. “But for me, it’s not about the win. It’s about my performance, most especially in the last two days.”

His final two rounds featured a remarkable display of skill, with a bogey-free 63 and a round that included eight birdies. This win, achieved with his best-ever score as a professional, is a significant confidence booster as he prepares for the Sunshine Development Tour next week.

Abraham Ainamani finished in second place at nine-under par, while early leader Rodell Gaita secured third place at seven-under par. The tournament also saw other notable performances, with golfers like Grace Kasango and Silver Opio rounding out the top five.

The success at Entebbe is a testament to Rugumayo’s dedication and hard work, offering a significant boost as he aims for further success on the professional circuit. His consistent winning streak highlights his current dominance in the Ugandan golf scene.
