Queen Mother Kemigisa Shares Emotional Tribute to Late King Oyo

At a funeral service held at St. John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal, Queen Mother Best Kemigisa of Tooro shared heartfelt reflections on the life of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. She described her son as a person of immense peace, mercy, and deep devotion to prayer, so much so that he eventually taught her spiritual lessons.

Kemigisa recounted how she first introduced Oyo to prayer when he was a young child, establishing a routine of praying together before bedtime. However, as he matured, the dynamic shifted, and King Oyo became the spiritual guide, even presenting scriptures for her interpretation.

“I taught him how to pray when he was young, and we could not sleep without praying. But when he grew up, he taught me how to pray,” she shared with mourners, noting his loving and playful way of engaging with her on spiritual matters.

She expressed profound grief, even questioning why she was spared instead of her son, whom she considered exceptionally good and devoted. Kemigisa emphasized Oyo’s peaceful disposition, his constant happiness, and his merciful nature throughout his reign as King of Tooro.

The Queen Mother also extended her gratitude to the people of Tooro for their unwavering love and support during this period of mourning. She noted the large numbers of people who continued to gather, reflecting the deep affection they held for their King.

She urged the mourners to uphold the peace and spirit of unity that King Oyo embodied, stating that maintaining such peace would be the most fitting tribute to his memory. The late King Oyo, who passed away on August 27 in the United States after battling cancer, was laid to rest at the royal tombs in Karambi.

His passing marked the end of a significant reign that began in his childhood, with the Kingdom now navigating its future.
