Princess Ruth Remembers Omukama Oyo as Beloved Brother, Not Just a King

During the somber occasion of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV’s burial at the Karambi Royal Tombs, Princess Ruth Komuntale delivered a heartfelt tribute, emphasizing the profound difficulty of accepting the loss of her beloved brother.

More than just the monarch who ascended the Tooro throne at the tender age of three and reigned for 31 years, Oyo was to Princess Ruth a childhood companion, a source of laughter, and a storyteller. She revealed a side of the king often hidden by the demands of his crown – a God-fearing, humble, and reserved individual.

Princess Ruth reminisced about their shared childhood, recalling mischievous moments and the joy they brought to their mother. She fondly remembered family Christmas journeys to Fort Portal, filled with their mother’s amusing tales, which often led to prolonged laughter from the siblings, sometimes testing their mother’s patience.

Despite his early ascent to kingship, Oyo retained a playful essence. Princess Ruth described him as an exceptional impersonator who could bring smiles and laughter to any occasion. She noted that he often acted as the older sibling, a role he embraced to protect her and their mother after their father’s passing.

Away from his royal responsibilities, Oyo was deeply committed to his faith, dedicating time to journaling, studying Scripture, and reflecting on its teachings. He also cherished his passions for sports, farming, and his animals. Princess Ruth described him as a curious learner, always eager to research new subjects, and someone who enjoyed the simple pleasures of cinema, occasional dancing, dining out, and exercise.

His memory lives on through these cherished personal recollections, offering a glimpse into the man behind the royal stature. The final farewell was held on Saturday at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal.
