PLU Launches Mubende Drive for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba's Presidential Ambitions

Leaders and supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Mubende District have commenced a campaign to garner support for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the current Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), to potentially run for the presidency.

The initiative was officially launched at the Mubende Mayor’s Gardens, with Mubende Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Abubaker Birungi leading the ceremony. The event saw the presence of various dignitaries, PLU officials, and a significant turnout of local residents.

During the launch, RDC Birungi expressed his belief in Gen. Kainerugaba’s leadership capabilities, urging Ugandans to rally behind him. “We should support leaders who have the capacity and vision to take this country forward,” Birungi stated, adding that his personal relationship with the CDF strengthens his endorsement.

Birungi further pledged his commitment to campaigning for Gen. Kainerugaba should President Yoweri Museveni give him the green light to contest. “If President Museveni gives Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba the go-ahead to contest for President, I will campaign for him,” he affirmed.

Buweekula County MP and PLU Chairperson for Mubende District, Rtd. Maj. Joseph Kakooza, also addressed the gathering. He encouraged the people of Mubende to welcome Gen. Kainerugaba and consider him a potential future leader for Uganda.

Maj. Kakooza announced plans to extend the endorsement exercise across all sub-counties in Mubende District. Endorsement books will be distributed widely, and logistical support will be provided to individuals and groups eager to mobilize support within their communities.

The campaign is set to continue throughout the district as PLU mobilizes public backing for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba ahead of future political developments.
