Honour King Oyo's Legacy by Supporting Arsenal, Urges Archbishop Mugalu

Archbishop Stephen Kazimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda has proposed a unique way to commemorate the legacy of the late Tooro King Oyo Rukidi IV: by becoming a supporter of Arsenal Football Club.

During a recent occasion, Archbishop Mugalu emphasized that true remembrance goes beyond mere words and formal ceremonies. He believes that honoring King Oyo involves actively pursuing the causes and passions that were dear to the monarch.

Among these passions, King Oyo’s support for sports, particularly his allegiance to the English Premier League club Arsenal, stood out. “Above all, he supported Arsenal, so if you want to follow his legacy, support Arsenal, all of you,” Archbishop Mugalu stated, drawing a connection between the king’s interests and how he could be best remembered.

The Archbishop also highlighted King Oyo’s commitment to youth empowerment and vocational training. He urged attendees to promote initiatives that provide young people with practical skills, aligning with the late king’s vision for development.

King Oyo’s deep involvement in local football tournaments and his support for the Uganda Cranes were also acknowledged, underscoring the significant role sports played in his public life. However, the specific mention of Arsenal added a distinct, relatable touch to the proceedings, resonating with many football enthusiasts.

For years, King Oyo’s fondness for Arsenal was well-known, becoming an integral part of his public image, especially among the youth who followed both his royal duties and personal interests. Archbishop Kazimba’s call effectively transforms this loyalty into a living tribute, suggesting that embracing the king’s beloved team is a tangible way to keep his spirit alive.

King Oyo, who passed away at the age of 34, was the world’s youngest reigning monarch. He was laid to rest on Saturday.
