Entebbe Airport Sees Passenger Surge in August Amidst Lower-Than-Last-Year Traffic

August 2026 marked a positive upswing in passenger activity at Entebbe International Airport, with a total of 169,706 international travelers passing through its facilities. This represents an increase of 13,364 passengers compared to July’s figures.

The daily average traffic saw approximately 5,474 international passengers per day, with the airport recording 88,270 arrivals and 81,436 departures during the month.

While the August numbers show a recovery from July, they still lag considerably behind the same period in the previous year. In August 2025, Entebbe International Airport facilitated 239,329 passengers. The current year’s figures show a decline of 69,623 passengers, approximately 29%, when compared to August 2025.

This surge in passenger traffic during August occurred despite recent travel restrictions that have impacted global movements. The month is traditionally considered a peak travel season, and the increase suggests a gradual return to normalcy in travel patterns.

However, cargo operations at the airport saw a slight dip. Entebbe handled 4,693 metric tonnes of cargo in August, a decrease of 106 metric tonnes from July’s total of 4,799 metric tonnes. This consisted of 2,927 metric tonnes of exports and 1,766 metric tonnes of imports.

The overall data indicates that while Entebbe Airport’s passenger traffic is recovering month-over-month, both passenger and cargo volumes are still under pressure when compared to pre-pandemic benchmarks, reflecting the ongoing challenges in international travel and air freight.
