A man in the French village of Le Fauga, near Toulouse, has been handed a six-month jail sentence for making death threats against a primary school teacher. The 47-year-old father became enraged after the teacher disciplined his son for disruptive behavior in class.
The incident occurred after the teacher reprimanded the boy, who had initially been moved to another classroom to calm down but continued to act out. The father was called to the school and, according to local reports, confronted the teacher outside the premises.
He reportedly threatened to “cut off her head,” a remark particularly disturbing given the memory of Samuel Paty, a teacher beheaded in a jihadist attack in 2020. The teacher, who has since been granted official protection and is on sick leave, was not injured.
French Education Minister Edouard Geffray condemned the act, stating that “No teacher should be afraid to do their job.” He indicated that this case would likely be among the first to invoke a recent law designed to protect educational staff from significant safety risks posed by parents.
Despite the father’s subsequent apology, a judicial complaint was filed. A fast-track hearing led to the sentencing, with the judge emphasizing the gravity of the threats, especially in light of the Paty tragedy. The prosecutor had recommended house arrest, but the judge opted for jail time due to the seriousness of the offense.
