City Oilers Part Ways with Long-Serving Coach Andrew Tendo

City Oilers, a dominant force in Ugandan basketball, has ended its coaching relationship with Andrew Tendo. The club confirmed the departure through a social media tribute, expressing gratitude for his significant contributions over more than a decade.

Tendo’s tenure with the Oilers saw him spend nine seasons as the first assistant coach before stepping into the head coach role in 2023. His promotion continued a deep connection with a club that has consistently dominated the sport in Uganda for the past twenty years.

During his three seasons as head coach, Tendo led the team to one championship. However, the last two seasons concluded with playoff losses to the Namuwongo Blazers, including a hard-fought seven-game series defeat in the most recent season.

Tendo’s departure marks the end of an era for both himself and the club. He had a multifaceted history with the Oilers, having previously played for and captained the team before transitioning into the coaching staff. While City Oilers has yet to announce a replacement, speculation suggests that Mandy Juruni, who has returned from coaching in Rwanda, may be appointed to lead the team forward.
