Uganda Law Society Launches Second Law Tech Festival to Boost Digital Adoption

The Uganda Law Society (ULS) has announced its second annual Law Tech (Digital Transformation) Festival, an event designed to speed up the adoption of technology in Uganda’s legal field and champion local digital innovations. This year’s festival boasts an enhanced lineup of attractions, including a land title (Kyapa Mungalo), iPhones, televisions, and condominiums as potential prizes for participants.
The festival will commence with a series of regional events before culminating in a two-day main event scheduled for September 17 and 18, 2026, in Munyonyo.
Regional activities are planned for September 14 at the Law Development Centre in Mbarara, September 15 in Gulu, and September 16 in Mbale. The rebranding of the event aims to better reflect its focus on the legal profession and the increasing necessity for lawyers to adopt technological advancements.
According to Tony Kiire Galandi, Chairman of the festival and Managing Partner at Diamond Advocates, the event builds on the success of its first edition to create a platform for legal professionals to explore new technologies and their practical applications. He highlighted the importance of developing tools suited for the African context, noting that many current technologies originate from outside the continent.
Several institutions and private sector entities, including Bank of Uganda, Stanbic Bank, Centenary Bank, Diamond Advocates, Musangala Advocates, and Lexara, are partnering with ULS to support the festival. Universal Establishments is a key sponsor, offering significant prizes like an iPhone, television sets, land, and condominiums.
Registration for physical attendance at the main festival costs Shs500,000, with online participation priced at Shs200,000. ULS Vice President Anthony Asiimwe emphasized that technology is now indispensable in the legal profession and urged all practitioners to embrace digital transformation, citing the Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS) as an example of technology’s impact on the justice system.
This year’s festival promises a blend of professional development, innovation, networking, and attractive rewards as Uganda’s legal sector continues its journey into the digital age.
