Two sons arrested in Kagadi for alleged murder of 95-year-old mother

Authorities in Kagadi District have apprehended two sons in connection with the death of their 95-year-old mother, Angela Kabagenzi. The elderly woman was reported missing from her home in Matuntu A Village on the night of September 4, 2026.

Her body was discovered the following day in a nearby sugarcane plantation, approximately 300 meters from her residence. Investigators noted that the head was missing from the remains.

According to Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson Julius Hakiza, a sniffer dog was instrumental in the investigation, tracking a scent from the crime scene to the homes of the two suspects, identified as Peter Biija and another son known only as Isingoma.

During the police operation, Isingoma reportedly led officers and local community members to a burial site where the deceased’s head was recovered. Both Biija and Isingoma are currently in police custody assisting with the ongoing investigations.

The motive behind the alleged murder remains undisclosed as police continue to gather evidence. Kagadi Resident District Commissioner Caroline Nanshemeza confirmed that the suspects are being held and that the investigation is proceeding towards bringing them to court.

The Albertine region, to which Kagadi belongs, has been facing persistent security challenges, including violent crimes such as murder and robbery, often linked to domestic disputes and land conflicts. Police continue to implement measures like community sensitization and increased patrols to address these issues.
