Tooro Kingdom Remembers King Oyo's Enduring Legacy

Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV, a revered monarch of Tooro Kingdom, has passed away at the age of 34, leaving behind a legacy that spanned nearly three decades. Ascending to the throne as a child king, Oyo’s reign was one of the longest in Tooro’s history, guiding the kingdom through significant cultural and developmental milestones.
Among his notable achievements was the establishment of the King Oyo Model Farm in Bugaki Sub-county, Kyenjojo District. This initiative aimed to empower local farmers by introducing modern agricultural practices, fostering a more prosperous and sustainable future for the region.
Throughout his time as Omukama, King Oyo played a crucial role in preserving Tooro’s rich cultural heritage. He was a unifying figure for his people, embodying the traditions and customs that define the kingdom. His passing marks the end of an era for Tooro.
Cultural rituals have been performed to honor his memory and facilitate his final journey. The late king will be laid to rest on Saturday, September 12, at the Karambi Royal Tombs, located along the Fort Portal-Kasese Road, a site deeply connected to the kingdom’s royal lineage.
King Oyo’s departure leaves a void in the heart of Tooro, but his contributions to agriculture, culture, and his unwavering dedication to his kingdom will be remembered for generations to come.
