Stanbic Bank Boosts Kabale University Security with Shs100M Solar Lights Donation

Kabale University has received a significant boost to its campus security with a donation of 35 solar-powered lights from Stanbic Bank Uganda. The lights, valued at Shs100 million, are intended to combat the long-standing issue of poor illumination on campus, which has made students vulnerable to attacks, particularly during late-night study sessions.

This contribution is part of Stanbic Bank’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. Mumba Kenneth Kalifungwa, the bank’s Chief Executive, stated that the initiative aligns with the bank’s commitment to supporting communities in areas where it operates, with a particular focus on youth development.

Kalifungwa highlighted that university students fall under the youth demographic, making the provision of a safe and secure learning environment a key priority. The project was identified through the bank’s Kabale branch, following discussions between the branch manager and the university administration, which pinpointed improved lighting as a critical need.

Maj. Gen. Godfrey Katamba, the Kabale District Resident District Commissioner, welcomed the donation, emphasizing the importance of security in higher education institutions. He believes the new lights will significantly improve visibility in previously dark areas, aiding security personnel in preventing crime.

Associate Prof. Helen Musanabera Byamugisha, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at Kabale University, expressed gratitude for Stanbic Bank’s support. She noted that the solar lights will illuminate pathways, study areas, and residential spaces, benefiting students and staff who stay on campus late. Furthermore, Byamugisha pointed out that the use of solar energy aligns with the university’s commitment to renewable energy and reducing reliance on traditional power sources.

The donation reinforces the partnership between Stanbic Bank and Kabale University, fostering a more secure and conducive environment for academic pursuits.
