Rukungiri Health Workers Advised to Maintain Current Professional Licences

Health workers operating within Rukungiri Municipality have been urged to ensure their academic qualifications and professional documents are current and properly licensed. This directive aims to safeguard their practice and elevate the quality of healthcare services offered to the community.

The call to action came from Rukungiri Municipality Town Clerk, Isaiah Tumwesigye, during a recent quarterly performance review meeting for the Health Department. The meeting served as a crucial platform to evaluate existing service delivery and to formulate strategies for bolstering health standards.

Attendees at the review included key figures such as the Municipal Mayor, the Town Clerk himself, the Principal Medical Officer, Municipal Health Inspectors, heads of health facilities, and various departmental leaders and stakeholders.

Tumwesigye acknowledged the dedication of health workers in upholding professional and ethical conduct. He specifically tasked facility in-charges with the responsibility of verifying that all staff under their supervision hold valid practicing licenses. This measure is vital for maintaining accountability and ensuring that only qualified individuals are providing medical care.

Furthermore, Tumwesigye highlighted the need for improved security at health facilities. He called on these institutions to prioritize the installation of adequate security lighting around their premises in the upcoming financial year. This initiative is intended to enhance the safety and security of both the healthcare staff and the patients they serve.

In a stern warning against the mismanagement of medical supplies, Tumwesigye cautioned health workers against the unauthorized removal of medicines from facilities. He stressed that all medications must be accounted for meticulously and dispensed strictly according to established protocols.

Municipal Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Davis Ahabwe, echoed the importance of valid annual practicing licenses for all health professionals, whether they serve in public or private institutions. Dr. Ahabwe also encouraged facility teams to actively engage in Health Unit Management Committee (HUMIC) meetings to plan activities, strengthen complaint resolution, and utilize health data for informed decision-making.

The meeting concluded with a collective agreement on measures to fortify healthcare services throughout Rukungiri Municipality.
