Rugumayo Seizes Pro Tee Lead with Stellar 63

Ronald Rugumayo has surged to the top of the MTN Pro Tee Series leaderboard, posting an impressive eight-under-par 63 on the third day of the tournament at Entebbe Club. This remarkable performance, featuring no dropped shots, propelled him to a one-stroke lead heading into the final round.

Just days after securing the Uganda Professional Golf Open title, Rugumayo overcame a mental hurdle that had affected his play in the initial rounds. He carded birdies on holes 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 15, and 18, showcasing a strong all-around game with pinpoint tee shots and crucial putt conversions.

“I really feel good, I was swinging so well out there,” Rugumayo stated after his round. “Later, I talked to myself that it is only fair for myself to be present. I played with freedom. Golf is a mental game.”

He now holds a narrow advantage over Abraham Ainamani, who shot a 67 to sit in second place at -8 overall. Rodell Gaita, who led after the second day, dropped to third place at -7 after a round of 69. Despite his strong position, Rugumayo remains cautious.

“It changes my confidence, boosts my confidence as well but I shouldn’t say it is done yet. We still have another round to go. It is not yet over, I shouldn’t overlook myself,” he added.

In the chase for the Shs20 million prize, Grace Kasango and Deo Akope are tied for fourth place at one-under par. The final round promises an exciting conclusion as Rugumayo defends his lead against a competitive field.
