Rotary Clubs Extend Free Healthcare to Over 2,000 Residents in Kyotera

Residents of Kakuuto and surrounding areas in Kyotera District received much-needed medical attention during a free health camp organized by a consortium of Rotary clubs. The initiative, spearheaded by the Rotary clubs of Bwebajja, Masaka, Kyotera, Nsangi, and Makindye, successfully reached over 2,000 people.

Sylvia Nabakadde, President of the Rotary Club of Bwebajja, explained that Kakuuto was chosen due to a recognized need for medical support, particularly among villagers, truck drivers, and other workers in the region. The primary goal was to make basic healthcare services more accessible to those who struggle with the costs and logistics of reaching formal medical facilities.

During the camp, Rotary leaders, including Sotius Ssegawa of the Masaka Rotary Club, also took the opportunity to advocate for disease prevention and urged residents to adopt healthy lifestyles. They further called upon the government to bolster healthcare services, especially at local health centers, to ensure prompt and affordable treatment for all.

Kyotera District Chairperson Peter Ssasira lauded the Rotary clubs for their humanitarian efforts, emphasizing the significant impact of the camp on the community. Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the free services and requested the organizers to replicate such camps in other parts of Kyotera and neighboring districts.

This event underscores the ongoing need for community-based healthcare interventions, especially for populations facing financial and geographical obstacles to accessing medical care. The Rotary initiative provides a critical lifeline, highlighting the positive impact of collaborative efforts in addressing public health challenges.
