Regina Lunyolo: Championing Women in Sport and Fighting Cancer Through Touch Rugby

Regina Lunyolo is a driving force behind the growth of women’s rugby in Uganda and a dedicated advocate against cancer.

She founded the Entebbe Lady Swans RFC in 2018, which later evolved into Swans Sports Club in 2021. Lunyolo’s influence extends to various leadership roles, including Chairperson of the Entebbe Rugby Club Disciplinary Committee and General Secretary of the Entebbe Referees Society. Her commitment to women’s sports is evident in her positions as Team Manager for the Lady Cranes 7’s, Director of Women’s Rugby for the Uganda Rugby Union, and a member of the Rugby Africa Women’s Rugby Advisory Committee.

Beyond rugby, Lunyolo chairs the Uganda Olympic Committee Sustainability in Sport Commission and serves as General Secretary for the Lausanne Network for Women in International Sport. She has also been instrumental in organizing major events like the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup XVs and founded the Sports Women Connect Foundation to support female athletes. Her dedication to research in gender equality and sport is highlighted by her role as a Research Assistant at the Global Observatory for Gender Equality and Sport in Lausanne.

Lunyolo’s contributions have earned her significant recognition, including being voted among the 50 Most Influential Women in African Sport in 2025. She is also a World Rugby Executive Leadership Scholar and Ambassador and a winner of the AISTS global future female leadership in sport award.

Her personal reflections include cherished moments with family and the broader rugby community, with the passing of her mentor Jim Park being a significant loss. Lunyolo’s hobbies include networking, traveling, reading, and enjoying music, complementing her professional career in sports administration and management. Her “Touch Rugby Against Cancer” initiative aims to raise awareness and support for cancer patients through the sport she loves.
