Reflecting on Service to His Majesty King Oyo

It is with a profound sense of gratitude and a heavy heart that I reflect on my time serving His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. The individual before whom I eagerly awaited formal induction into his cabinet is now the very monarch I must bid farewell.
At 34, most individuals are just beginning to establish their careers and families, often in the early stages of leadership. King Oyo’s life and reign, however, were far from ordinary. He ascended to the throne at a remarkably young age, navigating the complexities of leadership with a unique blend of youthful energy and nascent wisdom.
During his tenure, His Majesty initiated several key projects aimed at uplifting his kingdom. Among these was the establishment of the King Oyo Model Farm in Bugaki Sub-county, Kyenjojo District. This initiative was designed to introduce and foster modern agricultural practices among the farmers of Tooro, providing them with practical knowledge and tools for improved livelihoods.
His Majesty’s vision extended beyond agriculture. He harbored personal dreams, including aspirations of a career in the military. While this path was not fully realized, it speaks to a broader ambition and a desire to serve in various capacities. The Omukama possessed a distinctive character, often described as having a childlike heart coupled with the wisdom of a much older soul. This duality allowed him to connect with his people on a deeply human level while undertaking the responsibilities of his royal office.
The passing of King Oyo, at the age of 34, marks a somber moment for the Kingdom of Tooro. His reign, though concluded prematurely by the cruel hand of death on August 27, 2026, will be remembered for his dedication and the initiatives he championed. His Majesty’s final journey home was marked by a series of deeply respected cultural rituals, underscoring the significance of his role within the kingdom.
Serving His Majesty King Oyo has been, without question, the greatest honor of my life. His legacy, though cut short, will continue to inspire.
