Kijanangoma's Ascension: How Tooro's New King Was Selected

The Babiito royal clan has unveiled the intricate selection process that led to the enthronement of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the new Omukama (King) of Tooro.

A 21-member committee, specifically appointed by the clan, meticulously managed the succession following the passing of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

This committee undertook a comprehensive procedure involving nomination, in-depth selection, and thorough vetting of potential candidates. The focus was on ensuring the most suitable heir would ascend to the throne.

Fr. Charles Oyo, who holds a significant role within the Babiito clan, served on this crucial succession committee. He also heads communications for the Office of Omujwera Musuuga. Fr. Oyo clarified that the committee did not resort to a voting system to make its final decision.

Instead, the process relied on careful deliberation and scrutiny of each candidate’s qualifications and suitability to lead the Tooro Kingdom. This ensured a well-considered choice aligned with the traditions and needs of the kingdom.

Prince Kijanangoma, a grandson of the late Omukama Rukidi III, now carries the mantle of leadership for the Tooro people.
