The final journey of Omukama Oyo was marked by a distinctive and luxurious hearse, a Mercedes-Benz described as more akin to a high-end passenger vehicle than a traditional funeral car.

This unique vehicle, a 3,000cc diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz, was custom-built in South Africa for VVIP funeral services. Ms. Ruth Waweru, Managing Director of Precious Funeral Services in Nairobi, Kenya, confirmed the hearse was hired for the occasion.

From the front, the limousine-style hearse bears a resemblance to a Mercedes-Benz GLE 400d or similar SUVs. However, its modifications set it apart for its solemn purpose. A key feature is the pair of doors on each side of the casket compartment. These doors lift upwards, resembling wings, and are fitted with glass panels, allowing onlookers an unobstructed view of the departed monarch.

The hearse’s presence underscores the significance of the occasion and the desire to provide a dignified and respectful farewell for the late King Oyo, incorporating elements of modern luxury with traditional customs.
