Children Abducted by Gunmen in Njeru, Buikwe District

A family in Bujowaali Village, Njeru Municipality, is living in fear after their two sons were forcibly taken from their home. The incident occurred on Monday evening as the children’s parents were returning from work in Jinja City.

Isaiah Mugabane, a Top Class pupil, and his younger brother Jeremiah Mugabane, a pupil at Mwiri Primary School, were reportedly watching television when masked men, one armed with a gun, entered the house. The housemaids, who were in charge of the children, were threatened and locked in a bedroom.

According to the father, Patrick Mugabane, one of the children initially resisted the abduction, biting an attacker on the hand, and was released before being locked away with the maids. The kidnappers then took the remaining two brothers. The parents discovered the abduction upon arriving home to find neighbors gathered outside.

The children’s mother, Fiona Nanono, expressed deep concern for her sons’ safety, noting that the kidnappers have not yet made contact or issued any ransom demands. This lack of communication adds to the family’s anxiety, as they are unsure of the motive behind the abduction.

Local authorities, led by Buikwe Resident District Commissioner David Matovu, have launched a search operation. Preliminary reports suggest the assailants were armed with guns and knives. This incident follows similar kidnappings in the Njeru area, including the abduction of a school director’s wife in May 2026 and an orthopaedic specialist’s daughter in December 2025, the latter of whom was released after a ransom was paid.
