Prince Edward Kijanangoma Elected Successor to Tooro Throne

The Tooro Kingdom is set to welcome a new monarch as Prince Edward Kijanangoma Rukidi has been chosen to ascend the throne. The decision was formally announced by the Babiito clan leaders at Karuziika Palace.
Msgr Isiah Mayombo, speaking on behalf of the Babiito clan, revealed the election during a gathering attended by clan members and a committee of 21 individuals. According to Mayombo, the General Meeting of the Ababiito clan was convened to identify a suitable successor after the demise of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
A resolution, endorsed by 19 members of the committee, confirmed that extensive consultations and due diligence were conducted before Prince Kijanangoma was selected. The statement highlighted that the authority to elect the king rests with the Ababiito clan, and the decision was made under the leadership of Omujwera Musuuga, the head of the clan.
Prince Edward Kijanangoma is the son of the late Prince Christopher Paul Kijanangoma and grandson of the late Omukama George David Rukidi III. His enthronement is slated to proceed according to the established traditions and customs of the Tooro Kingdom.
This announcement follows the death of King Oyo on August 27, 2026, concluding his reign. The succession process is expected to draw considerable attention from the royal family, the Ababiito clan, and the subjects of Tooro, given its sensitive nature. The committee emphasized that its choice was guided by thorough consultations and its mandate to find an appropriate successor.
