Museveni Allocates Land for Ankole Industrial Hub and Parks

President Yoweri Museveni has set aside land for the development of industrial infrastructure in the Ankole sub-region, signaling a significant push for economic growth and job creation.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, announced that 70 acres in Kyeizoba, Bushenyi District, have been designated for an industrial hub. This facility is expected to commence operations shortly, according to Tayebwa.

Furthermore, the President has allocated five square miles of land in Ruhengyere and another five square miles in Nakivale, both in Isingiro District, for the establishment of industrial parks. The Ruhengyere park is earmarked for food processing, aligning with the region’s agricultural strengths.

These initiatives are a direct fulfillment of President Museveni’s campaign promise to establish industrial facilities in Ankole. The goal is to promote value addition to the region’s abundant agricultural produce, thereby increasing farmer incomes and providing much-needed employment for the growing youth population, particularly university graduates.

Tayebwa highlighted the potential impact, citing Mbale Industrial Park as a successful model that has already generated over 1,000 jobs. The new facilities in Ankole are anticipated to spur similar development and economic transformation in the region, which relies heavily on dairy farming, coffee, livestock, and food production.

The establishment of these industrial parks and the hub is seen as a critical step towards diversifying the local economy and ensuring that raw materials produced by Ankole farmers are processed within the region, leading to greater economic benefits.
