Mbarara Police Probe Attempted Murder Following Domestic Dispute

Authorities in Mbarara are currently investigating a serious domestic incident that resulted in an alleged attempted murder. The victim, identified as 53-year-old businesswoman Rossette Nuwagaba, was reportedly attacked by her husband, Alex Nuwagaba, at their residence in Rwemirinzi Cell, Nyamitanga Division.
According to police reports, the confrontation occurred on September 8, 2026, when Ms. Nuwagaba returned home from her village to find her husband in the company of another woman. The discovery is said to have triggered a heated argument.
During the ensuing dispute, a disagreement over a missing television escalated. Police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira stated that Ms. Nuwagaba attempted to retrieve her television, which led her to grab her husband’s bag. In a fit of anger, the husband allegedly grabbed a panga (machete) and inflicted deep cuts on the victim’s head and hand.
Ms. Nuwagaba was immediately rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital to receive urgent medical attention for her severe injuries. The alleged assailant, Alex Nuwagaba, has been taken into custody. He is currently awaiting a mental status examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have confirmed that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack is underway to establish all the facts of the case.
