Kabaka's Representatives Outside Buganda Tasked to Uphold Culture and Foster Unity

Minister for Local Government, Kabaka’s Tour and Buganda Affairs Abroad, Joseph Kawuki, has called upon representatives of the Kabaka stationed in regions outside the Buganda Kingdom. He stressed the importance of upholding their unique cultural traditions while simultaneously showing respect for the customs of the communities in which they reside.

Kawuki’s directives were issued during a meeting at Bulange, which convened representatives from various areas including Mbale-Bugisu, Busoga, Busia-Malaba, and Rwenzori. The minister emphasized the need for these representatives to cultivate robust relationships with the national government and to collaborate effectively with local traditional leaders.

Joseph Ssenkumba, the Kabaka’s representative for Busia and Malaba, affirmed the strong bond between the Kabaka’s subjects and the local traditional leadership in his area. He highlighted the consistent support for Buganda Kingdom activities, including annual contributions to ‘oluwalo’, as evidence of this strong connection.

Jane Nakiyingi, who oversees the Kabaka’s subjects in Busoga, expressed gratitude to the Buganda Kingdom for its participation in the recent wedding celebrations of the Kyabazinga. She noted that this involvement significantly bolstered the spirit of brotherhood and unity between the institutions.

Nakiyingi further elaborated that Buganda’s presence at the Kyabazinga’s wedding underscored the value of maintaining strong inter-traditional institution relations and promoting community cohesion. The overall objective of the gathering was to enhance the coordination among the Kabaka’s representatives and ensure that Buganda’s cultural values and activities flourish among its subjects living outside the kingdom’s traditional borders.
