Ugandan citizens can now breathe a sigh of relief as India has reinstated all visa services. This decision, announced on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, follows the recent declaration by Uganda’s Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) that the country is free from Ebola.
The suspension of visa services had caused significant disruption for many Ugandans, including business travelers, students, and those seeking medical treatment in India. The restoration of both e-Visas and traditional paper visas is a welcome development for bilateral relations.
Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adonia Ayebare, expressed his satisfaction with the swift reversal of the travel restrictions. He specifically thanked India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, for his crucial role in facilitating this positive outcome. Minister Ayebare indicated plans for a formal meeting with his Indian counterpart to convey Uganda’s appreciation.
While visa services have resumed, India’s public health authorities will continue to implement targeted preventive measures at points of entry. Travelers from Uganda will still undergo standard health screenings, including submitting a Self Declaration Form and thermal screening, with ongoing health monitoring.
The resumption of visa processing is anticipated to revitalize trade and medical tourism between the two nations.
