Buganda MPs Unite to Champion Kingdom's Interests in Parliament

Legislators representing Buganda have committed to fostering unity within the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus, vowing to prioritize the kingdom’s welfare and secure enhanced government services. The caucus, led by Agriculture Minister and Buvuma County MP Robert Migadde, emphasized their dedication to ensuring that issues pertinent to Buganda are consistently raised and addressed in Parliament.
During a recent visit to Bulange Mengo, the MPs met with Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and other Kingdom officials. They highlighted their collective efforts to advocate for key concerns such as agricultural development, including the equitable distribution of resources like coffee seedlings and fertilizers. The visit also served as an opportunity to introduce newly elected members and underscore the caucus’s bipartisan approach.
Demonstrating their commitment, the MPs collectively donated over Shs50 million towards the Kabaka’s initiative to establish a mobile clinic aimed at serving communities around Lake Victoria. This contribution underscores their dedication to supporting the Kingdom’s welfare programs.
In his address, Katikkiro Mayiga urged the Members of Parliament to actively pursue Buganda’s rightful share of national revenue. He stressed the importance of allocating public resources in proportion to the region’s economic contributions and population, advocating for improvements in healthcare, education, and infrastructure such as electricity and piped water.
Furthermore, the caucus expressed their resolve to protect the Kingdom’s leadership, its people, and its land. Issues of economic empowerment and land security were identified as crucial for the sustainability of Buganda’s communities. Discussions also touched upon the responsible management of oil revenues, with a call for these funds to be invested in sectors that directly benefit public welfare, including environmental protection, healthcare, education, and agriculture. The importance of good governance, the rule of law, and respect for human rights were also emphasized as shared priorities.
