Uganda’s burgeoning oil sector has taken a significant step forward with the formal unveiling of its crude oil, christened ‘Pearl Sweet,’ to the global market. The official launch occurred at the Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference (APPEC) 2026 in Singapore, where the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Dr. Monica Musenero, presented the commodity to international refiners, traders, and investors.

The naming of the crude oil as ‘Pearl Sweet’ was announced just last week by President Yoweri Museveni at the Kingfisher Development Area in Kikuube District, marking a key milestone in the country’s journey towards oil production and export.

‘Pearl Sweet’ is characterized as a heavy, sweet crude oil. Its profile boasts a high wax content and notably low acidity, features that are expected to appeal to specific segments of the global refining industry. This strategic unveiling at a major international conference signals Uganda’s readiness to engage with global energy markets and attract further investment.

The development of Uganda’s oil resources has been a long-term project, and this formal market introduction is a crucial step towards realizing the economic potential of these reserves. The government aims to leverage this resource to drive economic growth and development within the nation.

This formal presentation signifies Uganda’s commitment to becoming a player in the international oil trade, aiming to attract buyers and partners for its significant petroleum deposits.
