Two Detained in Mbarara Following Gruesome Murder Discovery

A shocking discovery in Mbarara District has led to the arrest of two suspects after the dismembered remains of a 29-year-old man, identified as Richard Arinaitwe, were found. The grim scene unfolded on September 7, 2026, when Arinaitwe’s head was discovered placed at the doorstep of a resident’s house on Sibyangu Street in Bwizibwera Upper Cell.

The homeowner, Gumisiriza Innocent, promptly reported the incident to the local LC1 chairman, who in turn alerted the Bwizibwera Police Station. Investigators later located the rest of Arinaitwe’s body in a room within Bwizibwera Lower Cell, believed to be the location where the murder took place.

Arinaitwe’s identity was confirmed by his mother, Honest Asiimwe. Following the discovery, police deployed a canine unit, which assisted in tracking down and apprehending the two suspects, Tukahirwa Rodgers and Nasasira Darius. Both individuals are known to the deceased and are currently assisting police with their inquiries.

According to Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira, the suspects were close associates of the victim, involved in dealings that are yet to be fully uncovered. “According to our primary investigations so far in the murder case in Bwizibwera, police was able to recover the head of the person and track down the remaining parts of the body,” Kasasira stated.

Authorities are actively searching for the weapon believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. While police often cite disputes over domestic issues, property, or personal disagreements as common motives for homicides, the specific motive behind Arinaitwe’s murder remains under investigation. Police statistics indicate a high number of deaths from combined homicide and traffic incidents in recent years, highlighting the ongoing public safety concerns in the region.
