Third Infantry Division Earns Shs15m for Second Place in CDF Drill Competition

The Third Infantry Division has been awarded Shs15 million after achieving the first runner-up position in the second annual Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Drill Competition. Their drill team, under the leadership of Major Godfrey Mugenyi, impressively competed across various disciplines including Foot Drill, Cane Stick, Pace Stick, Crop Stick, and Sword Drill.

Beyond the overall second-place standing among 15 participating formations, the team also clinched two individual awards: Best Pace Stick Drill and Best Foot Drill. Division Commander, Brig Gen Michael Walaka Hyeroba, lauded the team’s success, attributing it to discipline, unwavering teamwork, and deep commitment.

“You have made 3 Division proud. You went as ambassadors and represented us with discipline and precision. Drill is the foundation of discipline and military professionalism,” Brig Gen Hyeroba stated during a recognition ceremony. He emphasized that the achievement was a collective effort and urged all soldiers within the Division to apply the same level of precision and discipline to their daily duties, particularly in the ongoing peace and security operations in the Karamoja region.

Major Mugenyi expressed gratitude to the Division’s leadership for their substantial support, which facilitated the team’s preparation and participation. The ceremony also highlighted the individual achievement of Private Owich Amina, who received a medal for being the Best Pistol Shooter at the recent Inter-Forces Shooting Competition. Brig Gen Hyeroba noted this as a historic moment for the 3 Infantry Division, being the first such medal awarded within its history, and encouraged all soldiers, regardless of gender, to strive for excellence.
