Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has been laid to rest at the age of 80. Mr. Hassan passed away at a hospital where he was undergoing treatment for a heart attack.
In accordance with Islamic customs, which emphasize prompt burial, Hassan was interred at his home in Kizimkazi, located in the South Unguja Region of Zanzibar. The burial ceremony took place on Monday, the same day he died.
His passing represents a significant personal loss for President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is one of his two widows. He is survived by his four children and fifteen grandchildren. The family has largely maintained a private life, though their public profile has been elevated due to the President’s prominent role as Tanzania’s first female head of state.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan assumed office in March 2021, following the death of former President John Magufuli. Her husband’s death occurs during her ongoing tenure as the nation’s leader.
