Kitara Secures First-Leg Advantage in Historic CAF Confederation Cup Match

Uganda’s Kitara FC has established a crucial advantage following their inaugural continental fixture, triumphing 2-1 against Mogadishu City in the CAF Confederation Cup. The historic match, held at the Hoima City Stadium, saw Jimmy Kalema score a brace to put the home side in a commanding position.

Kalema opened his account in the 34th minute, capitalizing on a pass from Gaddafi Wahab. Despite an initial saved shot, Kalema displayed composure to score from the rebound. He doubled Kitara’s lead just a minute later, heading home from a Kabon Livin cross.

Kitara had numerous opportunities to extend their lead, particularly in the second half. Kalema missed a chance to complete his hat-trick, while Gaddafi Wahab and Patrick Kaddu also failed to convert clear-cut chances. The team’s inability to be more clinical could offer Mogadishu City a glimmer of hope.

The Somali side had initially taken the lead through Akram Ilyaas. They also had a disallowed goal for offside early in the second half. However, Mogadishu City faces the challenge of playing the return leg at the same venue, as they are unable to host matches in their home country.

The fixture experienced a 40-minute delay due to administrative issues, which saw head coach Wasswa Bbosa observing from the stands. The presence of experienced players like Murushid, Jjuuko, Nicholas Kasozi, Martin Kiiza, and Karim Ndugwa, who were absent from the first leg, is expected to further bolster Kitara’s squad for future encounters.
