Kanungu Bar and Restaurant Ravaged by Fire, Investigation Underway

Tragedy struck Butogota Town Council in Kanungu District on Tuesday as a fierce fire engulfed the well-known Green Tree Bar and Restaurant. The incident, which occurred early in the morning, left the establishment in ruins, with property worth millions of shillings reported destroyed.

According to Christopher Turyasingura, the proprietor of Green Tree Bar and Restaurant, he had closed the premises for the night around 3 am. He was later alerted by others at approximately 10 am that the building was ablaze.

Eyewitnesses and local authorities responded swiftly to the emergency. Kigezi Police spokesperson, Nelson Tumushime, confirmed that both police officers and concerned residents worked together to combat the flames. Their quick actions were crucial in preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent structures in the densely populated area.

Preliminary findings from the police suggest that a short circuit may be the cause of the devastating fire. However, official investigations are ongoing to determine the precise origin and the full extent of the damage incurred.

Authorities are appealing to the community for any information that might assist in their investigation into the destructive event. The loss of the establishment is a significant blow to the local business community in Butogota.
