Musician Geosteady has stepped into the ongoing debate surrounding concert ticket prices in Uganda, directly addressing his counterpart Bebe Cool’s stance on Shs20,000 shows.
While Bebe Cool reportedly suggested that concerts with such low entry fees are financially unviable, Geosteady offered a different perspective. In a recent interview, he explained that the profitability of a concert extends far beyond the immediate ticket revenue.
“Money is given to you when staging the concert, but me personally, I look beyond that. I look at the incoming bookings and shows which come after that. It is where the profit comes from and whoever says there are no profits is just unaware,” Geosteady stated.
He elaborated that affordable concerts serve as a crucial platform for artists to re-engage with their fanbase, enhance their public profile, and consequently, attract a greater number of future performance opportunities. This increased visibility and fan connection, according to Geosteady, are where the substantial long-term financial benefits lie.
The discussion highlights a divergence of opinions within the Ugandan music industry regarding the economics of live performances. While some artists emphasize the challenges of covering production and organizational costs with lower ticket prices, Geosteady’s view underscores the strategic value of accessible events in building an artist’s career and revenue streams over time.
