Four Men Charged with Aggravated Robbery Over Shs37 Million Theft
Four men have been charged with aggravated robbery for allegedly stealing over Shs37 million in cash and valuables. They have been remanded in custody pending further court proceedings. Four individuals have been brought before the Mengo Chief Magistrate’s Court facing charges of aggravated robbery. The accused, identified as Yasin Ssemanda, Ramathan Jjingo, Cohen Farouk Kasumba, and Eric Musoke, allegedly used machetes in their crimes.
According to the prosecution, the men are implicated in two separate incidents. The first charge sheet details an alleged robbery on August 11, 2026, in Kasubi, Rubaga Division, where Najib Adam was purportedly robbed of Shs25.8 million by the four accused, who were allegedly armed with machetes. The prosecution contends that these weapons were used as deadly instruments during or immediately after the theft.
A second charge sheet implicates three of the men – Ssemanda, Kasumba, and Musoke – in another aggravated robbery. This incident is alleged to have occurred on July 24, 2026, in Kawaala Central, Rubaga Division. Here, Michael Galiwango was allegedly robbed of an iPhone 16 Pro Max worth Shs5 million, Shs4.8 million in cash, a bracelet valued at Shs600,000, and a silver chain worth Shs1.5 million, totaling Shs11.9 million. Machetes were allegedly used to threaten Galiwango during this incident.
Mengo Chief Magistrate Doreen Ajuna informed the accused that the charges they face are capital offences, meaning the Chief Magistrate’s Court lacks the jurisdiction to conduct a trial. Consequently, the men were not required to enter a plea. They have been remanded in custody until October 8, 2026, for the mention of their case, as investigations are reportedly ongoing and other suspects remain at large.
