25 Records Shattered at Dolphins Fast and Furious Gala as Mukalazi and Adams Shine

The recent Dolphins Fast and Furious Gala, held at Kampala Parents School, proved to be a record-breaking event, with swimmers setting 25 new meet records in a display of fierce competition. Hosts Dolphins Swim Club emerged as the top club with 1,037.5 points, but individual accolades were spread across various participating clubs, highlighting a growing talent pool in Ugandan swimming.
Dolphins coach Tonnie Kasujja attributed the surge in broken records, up from 11 last year to 25 this year, to the introduction of prize money for each record broken, motivating the athletes. He also noted the gala’s importance as an early event after the national championships, helping swimmers maintain momentum and build speed for the rest of the year.
In the younger age groups, young talents made their mark. Halwah Kayondo of Axolotlz Blitz dominated the 6-8 girls’ category, setting a new record in the 25m butterfly. For the 6-8 boys, Liam Bbosa of Altona was a standout, securing two meet records and amassing 90 points.
The 9-10 age group also witnessed significant achievements. Aya Ofleh Adams from Blue Whales Aquatic Venture shattered four meet records in the girls’ category, while Isaac Gabriel Isabirye of Dolphins set a new record in the 50m butterfly for the boys.
In the 11-12 categories, Mushirah Nabatanzi of AAK achieved a perfect score in the girls’ events, setting a record in the 50m butterfly. Shane Mugenyi of Otters reset records in the 100m IM and 50m butterfly for the boys.
The senior categories were not left behind, with Tendo Mukalazi of Aqua Akii leading the charge in the 15 and over boys’ group by breaking four records, including his own personal bests in the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle. For the senior girls, Rahmah Nakasule and Tyrah Muganzi set new records in their respective events.
This event underscored the developing strength and depth of swimming talent in Uganda, with many young athletes showing immense promise for the future.
