Sheikh Ssali Advises Newlyweds: Prioritize Responsibility Over Riches

Sheikh Imran Abdunoor Ssali, the Religious Affairs Secretary for the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), has offered crucial advice to newly married couples, urging them to place responsibility, patience, and mutual understanding above material wealth.

Speaking at a Nikah ceremony held at Gaddafi National Mosque, Sheikh Ssali noted that many marriages falter due to a failure to comprehend and fulfill marital duties. “Most of the files we have in our offices are of couples who have failed to handle their responsibilities,” he stated.

He specifically addressed the groom, Muniru Mbosera Watuwa, encouraging him to lead with strength through responsibility, patience, and care, rather than resorting to intimidation. Similarly, he called upon the bride, Shahiira Ndawula, to uphold her wifely duties, highlighting that shared commitment and understanding are fundamental to a stable union.

Sheikh Ssali also encouraged Shahiira to express gratitude for her husband, recognizing that finding a suitable partner can be challenging for many.

The ceremony, presided over by Sheikh Abdulwahid Rashid Ssewankabo, also featured remarks from the bride’s father, Sunnah Sulaiman Ndawula. He described marriage as a journey of building a home and a family together, advising the couple to center their marriage on Allah and support each other through life’s challenges.

Representing the Mufti, Hajji Counsel Muhammad Ali Aluma also congratulated the couple and echoed the sentiment against prioritizing wealth. He stressed that strong families are vital for societal stability and encouraged Muslim parents to promote marriage among their children. Aluma advised the newlyweds to resolve disputes privately before making them public.

This guidance underscores a call for couples to build lasting relationships on a foundation of shared values and mutual respect, rather than fleeting material possessions.
