Ohio Gubernatorial Candidate Amy Acton Targeted by Armed Man at Canfield Fair

During an event at Ohio’s annual Canfield Fair, Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Amy Acton was the target of an alleged assault by an armed individual. The Ohio State Highway Patrol intervened swiftly, stopping the suspect before he could reach Acton.

The individual, identified as 38-year-old Patrick Havas, was found to be carrying two pistols at the time of his arrest. While Acton herself was unharmed, her campaign stated that several others sustained injuries during the man’s attempt to “lunge” at her.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene detailed that Havas, a resident of Canfield, “aggressively shoved his way through the crowd toward Acton while holding a cell phone up.” The sheriff also noted that Havas knocked over two individuals using mobility scooters.

Havas is currently in custody at the county jail, facing charges of misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct. The incident drew condemnation from both political rivals and state leaders.

Republican rival Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign stated that “candidates should be able to meet with voters without having to worry about threats or violence.” Incumbent Governor Mike DeWine echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that political violence has no place at public events.

This event occurs against a backdrop of heightened concerns regarding political violence in the United States, which has seen lawmakers and public figures targeted in recent years.
