Mityana Bishop Urges Church to Embrace Local Funding for Sustainability

Bishop James Bukomeko Ssalongo of the Diocese of Mityana has implored church leaders to prioritize local resource mobilization over reliance on foreign funding. He emphasized that sustainable development of church institutions and programs hinges on the active involvement of local communities.

During a meeting with educators and students from faith-based schools within the Mityana Diocese, Bishop Bukomeko stated, “We should not always wait for money from abroad to develop the work of the Church. We have a responsibility to mobilize resources from within our communities.”

He also highlighted the crucial role of parents in supporting their children’s education and welfare, even in instances of government-provided free schooling. Bishop Bukomeko stressed that parental involvement is a key component of responsible parenting, contributing to improved learning outcomes.

“Parents must understand that supporting a child’s education is part of their responsibility. We cannot leave everything to schools or government,” he urged, advocating for collaboration between parents and teachers.

These remarks coincide with the Diocese’s renewed focus on strengthening its education sector. The Diocese’s Education Department has recently acquired a vehicle to enhance the monitoring and supervision of its schools.

This initiative aims to allow education officials to conduct more frequent school visits, assess learning environments, and ensure students receive adequate support. Bishop Bukomeko believes effective supervision is vital for identifying challenges and implementing necessary interventions to help learners and schools succeed.

The Diocese is optimistic that fostering greater cooperation among parents, teachers, church leaders, and education officials will lead to improved educational quality while simultaneously reducing external financial dependencies.
