Kyankwanzi Training: Officials Warned Against Corruption and Urged to Prioritize Service Delivery

Third Deputy Prime Minister Hajjat Lukia Nakadama Isanga has issued a strong admonition to local government officials, urging them to steer clear of corrupt practices. Speaking at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi, Nakadama highlighted that engagement in corruption could lead to termination of employment and potential criminal prosecution.

Her remarks were made during the conclusion of a comprehensive week-long leadership training program designed for local government representatives from the Western Region. The training gathered key figures such as Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), district chairpersons, and NRM district leaders.

Nakadama implored the attendees to maintain high standards of integrity and dedicate themselves to serving their communities effectively. She stressed the importance of avoiding the misuse of their positions for personal enrichment, stating clearly, “Government officials should stay away from corruption because it can cost them their jobs and may also lead to imprisonment.”

Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister specifically cautioned technical officials within local governments, including members of district technical committees. She advised them against allowing political agendas to compromise their professional duties. Nakadama emphasized that maintaining professionalism is crucial for the successful execution of government programs and ensuring that public services reach their intended recipients.

The training aimed to bolster leadership capabilities, enhance accountability, and promote the efficient implementation of government initiatives at the grassroots level. Leaders from various districts, including Mbarara, Fort Portal, Kazo, Kakumiro, Kagadi, Mbirizi, and Kasese, participated in the program.

Upon completing the course, the officials pledged to apply the acquired knowledge and skills to improve service delivery in their respective districts. Nakadama concluded by urging them to translate their training into tangible improvements, underscoring the vital role of effective local leadership in achieving national development goals.
