Kampala recently hosted the vibrant Miss Tourism Uganda 2026 grand finale, an event that blended cultural exhibitions with tourism promotion. A significant moment of the night was a heartfelt tribute to the late King Oyo of Tooro, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed away on August 27, 2026.
Contestants representing the Tooro sub-region, alongside participants from across the country, observed the tribute. King Oyo was widely recognized for his contributions to promoting Tooro’s rich cultural heritage and its unique tourism offerings. This commemoration served as a solemn prelude to the main competition.
Emerging as the standout winner was 20-year-old Filfat Mucureezi, representing the Ankole region. Her compelling performance, particularly during the crucial question-and-answer segment, impressed the judges and set her apart from the other finalists.
This year’s competition saw a broad participation, with over 36 women and eight men representing 12 distinct tourism clusters. These included Eastern, Ankole, Tooro, Buganda, Kigezi, West Nile, Teso, Northern Uganda, Rwenzori, Karamoja, Bunyoro, and the newly introduced Metro cluster.
As part of her winnings, Mucureezi will enjoy a complimentary stay at the luxurious Villa Vellar Estate located along Entebbe Road.
The finale was graced by numerous dignitaries, including the State Minister for Tourism, Susan Nakawuki Nsambu, and representatives from key tourism bodies such as the Uganda Tourism Board and the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Prominent figures from the cultural and entertainment sectors were also in attendance.
The event also included the second edition of the Man of Tourism International Uganda competition, with Prosper Auther Makayi claiming the male title. The organizers emphasized that the Miss Tourism Uganda pageant aims to empower young individuals to showcase their regional heritage and promote Uganda’s diverse attractions on a national stage.
