However, a critical question is emerging: who is actually accountable for the funds raised through these well-intentioned initiatives? The Daily Monitor’s opinion section points out that while the visibility of these events is high, the follow-through in terms of transparent financial reporting is often alarmingly low.
Organizers are encouraged to move beyond simply collecting donations and instead focus on providing clear, detailed accounts of how the money is spent. This includes publishing financial statements, project updates, and evidence of impact to build and maintain public trust. Without this level of transparency, the effectiveness of these fundraising efforts is undermined, and public willingness to contribute may dwindle.
The author argues that genuine success in fundraising should be measured not just by the number of participants or the amount collected, but by the demonstrable positive change the funds bring about. Establishing robust accountability mechanisms is crucial for ensuring that these social campaigns achieve their intended goals and truly benefit the communities they aim to serve.
