Vice President Alupo Commends King Oyo's Enduring Legacy

Vice President Jessica Alupo joined the Tooro Royal Family, subjects, and mourners at Karuziika Palace to honor the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. She described the young monarch, who passed away at 34, as a leader who left an indelible mark on Uganda and held a special place in the hearts of the Tooro people.

Alupo remarked on King Oyo’s unique journey, ascending the throne at just three years old and maturing into a respected leader who bore the aspirations of his kingdom with dignity. His reign, she noted, transformed him into a vital symbol of Tooro’s cultural heritage, identity, and unity.

The Vice President emphasized that King Oyo’s leadership demonstrated the capacity of cultural institutions to preserve traditions while simultaneously driving socio-economic progress. His initiatives spanned critical areas such as tourism, education, health, environmental conservation, and youth empowerment, all aimed at improving the lives of Ugandans.

As Tooro entered the final days of its nine-day mourning period, Alupo urged Ugandans and cultural leaders to focus on the impact of King Oyo’s life rather than its duration. “Although his life was tragically cut short at the age of 34, he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire the people of Tooro and Uganda forever,” she stated.

She called for unity and reflection on the importance of cultural institutions and heritage preservation. Alupo also conveyed her prayers and condolences to the Queen Mother, the Royal Family, and the people of Tooro, wishing them strength and comfort during this period of grief.
