Buganda Kingdom has extended its commendation to the Brothers of Christian Instruction as they celebrate 100 years of dedicated service in Uganda. The order has played a pivotal role in shaping generations through numerous educational institutions established across the country.

At the centenary event, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, who is an alumnus of the Brothers’ schools, shared how his education significantly influenced his leadership. He emphasized that the lessons learned continue to guide his service to the Kabaka and the people of Buganda.

Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere of Kampala presided over a Holy Mass, praising the Brothers for their dual focus on academic and spiritual formation. He highlighted that their work has produced not just students, but well-rounded individuals contributing to Uganda as doctors, teachers, leaders, and lawyers.

Katikkiro Mayiga further elaborated on the transformative power of education, stressing the importance of integrating faith and moral values with academic knowledge. He cautioned against an education devoid of these principles, likening it to a lost compass.

He expressed gratitude for the Brothers’ commitment to nurturing children’s character, instilling values such as integrity and honesty alongside academic prowess. This holistic approach, he noted, has laid a strong foundation for Uganda’s development over the past century.

Representing President Yoweri Museveni, Vice President Jessica Alupo echoed these sentiments, commending the Brothers for their significant contribution to national development and moral upbringing. She encouraged them to continue supporting government initiatives, including poverty alleviation programs like the Parish Development Model.

The Brothers of Christian Instruction have founded esteemed institutions such as St. Mary’s College Kisubi, St. Henry’s College Kitovu, and the University of Kisubi, underscoring their lasting impact on Uganda’s educational landscape.

This centenary marks a significant achievement in their 100 years of service to Uganda’s education, spiritual growth, and national progress.
