Fact Check: Fake AI-Generated Graphic Claims Ugandan Schools Reopen October 9, 2026

A widely circulated online screenshot falsely claims Ugandan schools will reopen for the third term on October 9, 2026. This information has been debunked by the Ministry of Education and Sports, which states the official reopening date is September 14, 2026, and that the graphic was created using artificial intelligence. Uganda Online has investigated a viral screenshot circulating on social media, which suggests that all schools and educational institutions across Uganda are scheduled to reopen for their third term on October 9, 2026. This claim has been definitively proven false.

The fabricated graphic, which appears to show an NBS TV news report with officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports, has been circulating widely. However, it does not align with the official 2026 school calendar released by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

According to the official calendar, the third term for primary and secondary schools in Uganda is set to commence on Monday, September 14, 2026, and conclude on Friday, December 4, 2026. This term is expected to last for 82 school days.

Further scrutiny revealed that the purported NBS TV broadcast was generated using artificial intelligence (AI) and is not an authentic news report. Next Media, the parent company of NBS TV, has officially refuted the graphic, labeling it as fake.

As of September 2, 2026, there is no official documentation from the Ministry of Education and Sports’ school calendar page that indicates any change to the original third-term reopening date of September 14. Therefore, the claim of an October 9 reopening is baseless and has been fabricated.
