Lawmakers in Uganda’s Parliament are scheduled for a demanding session this Wednesday, with a packed agenda that includes critical discussions on health sector funding, the performance of the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC), and a review of the President’s State of the Nation Address.
The sitting, slated to commence at 2:00 PM under the Speaker’s guidance, will begin with standard parliamentary proceedings before diving into substantive matters.
A significant portion of the session will be dedicated to the health sector. The Minister of Health is expected to provide an update on the implementation of the health component of the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Programme III (UGIFT III). This program aims to bolster health infrastructure at the local government level, and a 30-minute slot has been allocated for its presentation and subsequent debate.
Following the health discussion, the House will consider a tax waiver request for Newplan Limited, which will be moved by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. This item is expected to take 20 minutes.
Attention will then shift to the transportation sector with a motion concerning the Uganda Railways Corporation. The report from the Committee on Physical Infrastructure on URC’s status as of August 2026 will be presented. This 30-minute segment is anticipated to shed light on the corporation’s operational status, prevailing challenges, and ongoing reform efforts.
Concluding the day’s main business, Parliament will debate a motion expressing appreciation for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s State of the Nation Address delivered earlier this year. The motion highlights the address’s clarity in outlining government policy and addressing national issues. This debate, allocated 60 minutes, will include responses from relevant ministers and the Prime Minister.
After these deliberations, Parliament is expected to adjourn until a later date to be determined by the Speaker. This busy schedule underscores Parliament’s commitment to addressing key national issues through legislative oversight and debate.
