Zambian golfer Dominic Musonda has emerged victorious at the 85th Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateur Golf Open, marking a historic win as the first from his country to achieve this feat. The handicap +4.0 player secured the coveted title at the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) with a total score of nine-under 279 gross over the 72-hole stroke-play competition.

Musonda entered the final day with a commanding six-shot lead, largely due to an exceptional bogey-free round of eight-under 64 on the third day. While his final round saw him card a three-over 75, it was enough to maintain his lead and fend off his closest competitor, fellow Zambian Gilbert Chalwe.

“I am feeling great,” expressed a jubilant 22-year-old Musonda. “Coming back to Uganda and winning this tournament, it feels great.” This victory holds special significance for Musonda, who narrowly missed out on the title the previous year.

Uganda’s top performer was Joseph Cwinyaai, the 2025 champion, who climbed to third place with a total score of two-over 290 gross. Cwinyaai’s final round of two-under 70, featuring three birdies, showcased his strong performance. Joseph Kasozi finished fourth, one shot behind Cwinyaai, after a final-hole bogey.

The championship saw strong performances from several Ugandan golfers, but ultimately, it was Musonda’s consistent play and significant lead from the penultimate round that sealed his historic triumph.
