State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, revealed that discussions are actively underway with Algerian officials to secure access for Ugandan coffee and milk.

These crucial talks took place during a meeting with Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sofiane Chaib, as both nations aim to enhance their economic partnership.

The primary focus of the discussions was to identify and create viable pathways for Ugandan agricultural goods, especially coffee and milk, to enter the Algerian market. This initiative aligns with Uganda’s broader strategy to broaden its export base and increase revenue from its agricultural sector.

“Our discussions focused on expanding opportunities for Ugandan products, particularly coffee and milk, to access the Algerian market,” stated Minister Kasolo.

Beyond specific product exports, both countries committed to establishing a Joint Economic Commission. This commission will serve as a formal platform to advance trade, investment, and overall economic cooperation between Uganda and Algeria, translating existing diplomatic ties into tangible commercial benefits.

Minister Kasolo also extended his gratitude to Algeria for offering scholarships to Ugandan students, acknowledging their contribution to skills development and reinforcing people-to-people connections.

On the diplomatic front, Algerian Minister Chaib congratulated Uganda on its successful management of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak. He also confirmed his intention to visit Uganda in December 2026 for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting, providing a further opportunity to deepen bilateral discussions.

This strategic push towards the Algerian market underscores Uganda’s commitment to reducing reliance on traditional export markets and exploring new avenues for its key agricultural commodities. The Nile Post
