Ntungamo Secures Land for Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub

Ntungamo District is poised to become a key center for youth development with the approval of a Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub at Obuyora in Rubaare Town Council. This decision, greenlit by President Yoweri Museveni, aims to significantly enhance access to practical vocational training for the district’s young population.

Previously, Ntungamo youth faced limited opportunities, often competing for spots at the wider Ankole Industrial Skilling Hub. The newly allocated 75 hectares will transform the underutilized government property at Obuyora, which once housed Ntungamo Teachers College before its closure and subsequent deterioration.

This project breathes new life into the former college buildings, addressing concerns about wasted public resources and potential land encroachment. The hub is set to offer a range of courses, including carpentry, tailoring, building, mechanics, welding, plumbing, and hairdressing. Training is anticipated to commence around December.

Local leaders have welcomed the development. Moses Kahima, MP for Ruhama East, hailed it as a significant achievement that will equip the youth with vital skills for sustainable livelihoods. Asuman Kigongo, Ntungamo District Deputy LC5 Chairman, highlighted how the hub resolves the issue of the redundant government facility.

Furthermore, graduates will receive support to establish their own income-generating ventures, promoting self-reliance. Naome Kabasharira, MP for Rushenyi, expressed gratitude, noting that the hub will alleviate the intense competition for training slots previously faced by Ntungamo’s youth.
