The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has pledged its support for a significant regional cybersecurity event aimed at bolstering information security, data protection, and public confidence in digital services.

The 15th Annual East Africa Information Security Conference, scheduled to take place from September 14 to 18, 2026, will convene under the theme “Securing the Future through Digital Trust.” This backing from the UCC signifies a commitment to addressing the growing challenges in the digital landscape.

UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo met with leaders from the ISACA Kampala Chapter to discuss collaborative efforts in promoting secure digital transformation. Thembo emphasized the critical role of robust cybersecurity frameworks and effective data protection mechanisms in fostering public trust and driving the growth of the digital economy.

“As regulators, we recognise that robust cybersecurity frameworks and data protection mechanisms are fundamental to a thriving digital economy,” stated Thembo. He highlighted that the conference will serve as a vital platform for industry experts, policymakers, and technology leaders from across East Africa to deliberate on emerging threats and strategies for safeguarding the region’s increasingly interconnected digital ecosystem.

The conference is expected to generate practical outcomes aimed at strengthening cybersecurity and supporting secure digital transformation throughout East Africa. The UCC anticipates impactful discussions that will contribute to the collective safeguarding of the region’s digital infrastructure.

This initiative comes at a crucial time, as the rapid adoption of digital technologies necessitates a heightened focus on cybersecurity and data protection for governments, businesses, and individuals alike. The UCC’s involvement is poised to enhance collaboration among regulators, technology professionals, and other stakeholders in mitigating cybersecurity risks and fostering widespread digital trust.
